The participation in ESI Amlat: a success for Manto Circular Lab and the STEAM U.V.A. project

The president of Manto Circular Lab APS, Marilena Paolino, recently attended the international event ESI Amlat 2024, held in Lima, Perù, accompanied by Mauro Grandi. This event, organized by MILSET (International Movement for Leisure Activities in Science and Technology), is dedicated to promoting science, technology, and innovation among young people, creating a platform for the exchange and sharing of innovative and visionary projects from across Latin America and beyond.

Manto Circular Lab was represented by Alessandro Grandi, Filippo Sonzogni, and Edoardo Testa, three talented students who presented the STEAM U.V.A. (Uso Vinacce Alternativo) project, developed with the support and guidance of the association's tutors. The project aims to repurpose winemaking residues through an innovative process to extract natural dyes and bioactive molecules, such as anthocyanins and polyphenols, for applications in the textile, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, and cosmetic sectors. This initiative perfectly aligns with the mission of Manto Circular Lab, focused on promoting sustainability and adopting circular practices.

An innovative project with a circular approach

The results achieved by the students were promising, demonstrating how winemaking by-products can be transformed into high-value-added resources, fostering a sustainable and innovative approach to waste management.

A shared vision for the future

Participating in ESI Amlat represented a unique opportunity for young Italian talents to engage with other international realities, receiving recognition for their creativity and commitment. Furthermore, it allowed Manto Circular Lab to strengthen its role as a promoter of scientific and technological initiatives aimed at sustainability.

The ESI Amlat experience proved to be a success not only for the results of the STEAM U.V.A. project but also for the personal and professional growth of all participants. Marilena emphasized how the increasing environmental awareness and challenges related to sustainability must guide the design of new circular practices, involving young people in an educational and innovative journey.

Thanks to initiatives like this, Manto Circular Lab continues to demonstrate that the synergy between science, technology, and sustainability is the key to a better future.
