Hybrid Autonomous Living System

Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the annual science and engineering fair in the United States, and is organized by the Society for Science; the Public, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C.

Each year in May, more than 1,500 students from about 70 countries and territories

compete in the fair for scholarships, internships, science field trips and grand prizes. A group of three students from Fermi in Mantua supported by MCL tutors presented their project H.A.L.S.: Hybrid Autonomous Living System, a hybrid solution combining innovative design, high technological degree, and aquaponic and aeroponic growing methods, at the 2021 virtual edition. In fact, the modularity of the prototype made by the students, can provide an opportunity for the urban rehabilitation and redevelopment of disused industrial spaces, enabling indoor cultivation and zero-mile production. It can also provide the possibility of production in areas with limited water resources and prohibitive climatic conditions.

The young people were followed along the path, which began in 2020 as part of PCTO activities, by Manto Circular Lab tutors Alessio Piva and Marco Morelli. This is just one of the activities that testify to our interest and care in STEM research and innovation activities and MCL's commitment to young people.
